Hey Culinarian, welcome to diaspora*! Below is some info you may find helpful.
Welcome to the Federation!The Federation
is a global, distributed social network. That means that unlike social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter, which have one central location that has full control
over the network and user data, the Federation has no central control
over the network or user data. Instead, individual computers or "pods" operated by different individuals or groups all communicate with each other to create a network where users around the world can share ideas with one another.
The Federation includes five different projects (you joined one of these):They are interconnected
Here are some tips to get you started:
determine the content you want to see, not what anybody else wants you to see. Content is not prioritized because of popularity or what you do on the social network. You follow #hashtags
and people to get content in your stream in chronological order.
* The same thing applies the other way as well. No one will see your posts unless you tag them. Be sure to use relevant tags!
- When you post things there is an option called visibility. It decides who sees your posts. Public means everyone can see them, "All Aspects" (or similar) means only your contacts can see them, and the rest decided which contacts see it.
- There are several ways that you can get help if you need it. One of the best ways is to post a public question using the #help and #questions tag. You can also take a look at the help files available on your pod. On *diaspora, you may wish to consult the step-by-step tutorials.
* It is our job as the community to make content, invite people, fight spam, and even work on the projects themselves.Have fun in this new community.
